Medicare Advantage Plans – also called MA Plans or Medicare Part C – are a type of Medicare health plan offered by a private company that contracts with Medicare to provide all Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance) benefits.

Extra benefits included with a Medicare Advantage plan

Since MA plans are offered by private companies, they can be customized with extra benefits. Some benefits may provide coverage for:

• Routine dental care (dental exams, X-rays, teeth cleanings)
• Routine vision care (eye exams, eyeglasses and contacts)
• Routine hearing care (hearing tests, hearing aids)
• Fitness programs
• Gym memberships
• Transportation to doctor visits
• Over-the-counter drugs
• MA plans can also be customized to treat specific conditions and diseases.

A Medigap, or Medicare Supplement, plan pay after Medicare to help cover your deductibles, copays, and coinsurance that you would otherwise be responsible for covering. Private health insurance companies sell these popular plans.

Medicare beneficiaries have the option to enroll in the Medicare prescription drug benefit, also called Medicare Part D, which is a program aimed at assisting with the cost of self-administered prescription drugs through prescription drug insurance premiums. Optional Medicare Part B covers the cost of nearly all professionally administered prescriptions.

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not provide coverage for dental and vision care, which may have been noticeable when you enrolled. To address this gap, supplemental insurance plans for dental and vision care are accessible. These plans are reasonably priced and contribute to the costs of oral and eye appointments and treatments.

Indexed universal life (IUL) insurance is a type of permanent insurance that accrues cash value over the course of your lifetime. Unlike other universal policies that only offer cash value growth through non-equity earning rates, an IUL insurance allows for partial cash value growth through an equity index account. As with all universal life plans, you can use your accrued cash value to pay off your premiums in full or in part without affecting your death benefit.

An annuity contract that bases its interest rate payment on the performance of a predetermined market index is known as an indexed annuity. It is not the same as variable annuities, which base their interest rate on a portfolio of securities selected by the annuity owner, or fixed annuities, which pay a fixed rate of interest. Indexed Annuities are also known as equity-indexed or fixed-indexed.
